Trump, Trade, and the Future of NAFTA

During the 1980s and early 1990s, trade and investment among Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. exploded. The North American Free Trade Agreement was implemented in 1994 establishing the governance of these flows. More than twenty years later, the Trump Administration is threatening to scrap or, at a minimum, renegotiate NAFTA.

Join us to hear from three of NAFTAs lead architects: Carla Hills, formerly the U.S. Trade Representative; Jaime Serra-Puche, formerly the Mexican Secretary of Trade and Industry; and John Weekes, formerly the Chief Canadian NAFTA Negotiator.

Tim Kehoe, Distinguished McKnight University Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Minnesota, will moderate a panel discussing where trade and foreign investment in North America are likely to go over the next four years and what the potential dangers and opportunities are for businesses and consumers in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.
