Rachel Polan

As Director, Television at Lionsgate, Rachel Polan is a talented programmer with a keen eye for talent, strong ties to the creative community, and a great understanding of the millennial audience.

In the past year, Ms. Polan has been involved in some of the Television Groups biggest accomplishments. She was part of the team that successfully found a new home for fan-favorite series Nashville on CMT and Hulu in a highly publicized coup after the show was let go by ABC. In addition, Ms. Polans series Casual garnered Hulu their first ever Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series  Musical or Comedy. Furthermore, Ms. Polan helped score several series pickups and renewals with popular drama The Royals being renewed by E! for a third season and two new series getting straight-to-series orders: the drama Graves for EPIX and upcoming comedy Nightcap for POP.

Ms. Polan also helped develop a slate of attention-grabbing projects across platforms, including the highly-anticipated, new comedy Dear White People, a 10-episode series for Netflix, and Crushed, a pilot for Hulu.  Furthermore, she continues to help bring key development projects to life with the studios top talent, including Dee Johnson, Jason Reitman, Gil Netter, Ali Wentworth, Mark Schwahn, Joshua Michael Stern, Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg and Stephenie Meyer, among others.

Since joining the studio in 2012, Ms. Polan has served as the current executive on Showtimes award-winning Nurse Jackie and Weeds, and helped develop numerous scripted projects, including Ascension (SyFy) and Harold & Kumar (Adult Swim).

Ms. Polan received her B.A. from Arizona State University in Mass Communication and Educational Psychology.

Whitney Davis

As a content creator, developmental editor, ghostwriter, creative consultant and writing coach with eight years of professional experience in the entertainment and literary industries, I am passionate about helping my clients tell their untold stories. My areas of expertise include creative concept development and editing for "story at large." What does that mean, exactly? Whether you have a feature screenplay tumbling around in your head, a concept for a TV pilot scribbled on the back of a napkin, pages upon pages of notes for a novel stuffed in your desk drawer or a memoir waiting to be written, I can help make your creative project a reality.

Living and working in the heart of Los Angeles has allowed me to collaborate with award-winning, published authors and screenwriters, as well as the new writer attempting to break into the business.  But, no matter where you are in your creative career as a writer, my aim with EVERY client is to polish and improve your creative project, all while keeping the artistic integrity of your work intact.  And my patience and dedication to this collaborative process produces happy clients that return for guidance again and again!

Throughout my career, I have sought out and studied under the top experts in the screenwriting and literary fields, all in an effort to bring a wealth of knowledge to my clients.  In the TV and Film industry, I have studied under the likes of Steve Kaplan, John Truby, Jen Grisanti, Pam Douglas, Lee Jessup,  Christopher Volger  and Shawn Tolleson to name a few.  In the world of novels, I have studied under masterminds such as Paula Munier of Taclott Notch Literary, Chuck Sambuchino, editor of Writer's Digest, NYT best-selling author Hallie Ephron and countless others.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in Literature from Texas A&M University in 2003. Currently, I split my time between Los Angeles, California and Dallas, Texas.

Derrick Borte

Writer/director Derrick Borte began his career as a painter. After receiving his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Old Dominion University, he earned a Masters of Arts in Film and Media Studies at PARSONS/The New School in New York, and joined the production staff at Sony Music Studios, where his fine arts background evolved with his indoctrination to film and video.
In 2010, Derrick Borte wrote, produced, and directed THE JONESES, which garnered a Gala presentation at the 2010 TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. The film was also an official selection at the DEAUVILLE FESTIVAL OF AMERICAN FILM, DALLAS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, SARASOTA FILM FESTIVAL, SEDONA FILM FESTIVAL, and ZURICH FILM FESTIVAL.
He is currently working with Echo Lake Entertainment on a television series based on THE JONESES. His recent work includes LONDON TOWN, which he directed. The film premiered at the BFI London Film Festival, Rome Film Festival and Los Angeles Film Festival in 2016, and was purchased by IFC Films for theatrical distribution.

DIVERSITY A FOCUS FOR OHIO PRODUCTION COMPANY

I71Movies is a production company which started in Columbus, Ohio with a focus on working with up and coming writers, artists, and crew, not just in Ohio, but in the Midwest.
The two founders of I71Movies, Derek Talib and Jose Byers, wanted to not simply focus on Midwest talent, but create other projects where diverse casts work together. Their addition of Rebekah Hart Franklin added a talented actress and business woman and also a different perspective to increase, not only their diversity but also their vision.
Writer and Creator of St. Gabriel, Derek Talib stated, At I71Movies we wanted to reflect what society is and that is a much more blended world than movies would have us believe. I like to write parts for strong women and not simply make them window dressings in the films.

St. Gabriel is a television program that has multiple female leads and, according to its creator, they are critical to the storytelling.  As they cast the show, Derek, Jose, and Rebekah are looking at all types that fit the character with a focus on blending the cast with multiple ethnicities and talents.

The three are currently working on multiple projects that offer a number of strong roles for women and minorities. Jose Byers, co-founder of I71Movies, was asked if he thought minority leads would affect their projects being picked up by a network or distribution.  I dont foresee that as with most things it is about money in Hollywood and if you have a good story and it is told well people will watch. We want to cast good actors not good white, black or Hispanic actors. For example, we may have a character and have a certain look in our heads, but that look isnt based on ethnicity, but more on portrayal.

Rebekah Hart Franklin has a firm belief in the film industry expanding to reflect the cultures of the people that go to the movies. The world is becoming smaller and more culturally diverse and the days of not finding a Native to play an American Indian are long gone. It is the duty of the film producers to find the right actor or actress if need be. Commitment to excellence in purpose and unwavering dedication to purpose are the foundations that i71movies will be founded upon.

Although I71movies is minority owned, they do not want to be thought of as minority owners, but instead, just good producers, writers and directors. One thing that seems to separate I71movies is the program they are initiating to train up and coming teenagers that want to get involved in movie making.

Currently, i71movies has finished turning their award winning short, Dark Iris, into a feature film. The short has been made into  a feature-length motion picture that has secured distribution, and they are now currently working on the pilot for their television show entitled, St. Gabriel; a Horror film entitled, Ravens Gate; A Supernatural thriller entitled, Echo Haven; and a yet to be named Blood Novella film capturing their unique storytelling style.
Mary Dixon

Mary Dixon is a graduate from East Carolina University with a background in screenplay writing and theology. There she penned 7 original scripts and produced and created almost 100 music videos and commercials. In 2014, she wrote The Possession Experiment, which she also produced. The film stars Bill Moseley (The Devils Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses, Army Of Darkness) and  experienced wide international success being shown and sold at the Berlin Film Festival and Cannes International Film Festival, and finally was signed for domestic release with EOne and Momentum Pictures, both of which are owned by Sony Pictures. Mary has gone on to assist in the production of Madhouse Mecca, starring Tony Denman (Fargo, Sorority Boys), Scott Evans (Days of our lives) and David Kieth (, Monumental starring Luke Albright and Gary Carins. and Until it Hurts which is a feature documentary which won Best First Time Feature at the Cayman International Film Festival.
