The real sophisticated thing... devastating and convincingly Kabarett.  Backstage

A witty, proud, and political evening. - Q On Stage

Its winter 1930 and Tante Fritzy, cabaret artiste extraordinaire invites you to have a ball in her gender-bender world. Never mind the rising popularity of the guy with the bad moustache. Come and celebrate Berlins edgiest cabaret music with her as she kicks the world on its ass.

The songs,  originally written or performed by queer artists in Weimar era Berlin
include the music of Lothar Brühne, Richard Fall, Friedrich Hollaender, Horst Platen, Rudolph Nelson, Ernst Sennhofer,  and Mischa Spoliansky. The original German texts were  written by Bruno Balz, Raimund Dannberg, Willy Hagen, Friedrich Hollaender, Fritz Löhner-Beda, Marcellus Schiffer, Kurt Schwabach, and Kurt Tucholsky.

The piece is based on an evening created by Alan Lareau for the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. in conjunction with the exhibition Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933- 1945.

The one-man show was originally produced by TOSOS (The Other Side of Silence) a theatre company dedicated to preserving the theatrical heritage of the LGBT community.

Jeremy Lawrence (Performer/English Lyrics/Additional Material. Jeremy recently returned from his fifth appearance as Scrooge at the 2300 seat Hanover Theatre in Worcester, Massachusetts. Regional credits include Fiddler at  Goodspeed in Connecticut and the MUNY in St. Louis, Noises Off at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Into The Woods  at Baltimores Center Stage and the Westport Country Playhouse where he also performed in Tartuffe. Recent  TV appearances include NBCs  The Blacklist (guest star) and the upcoming season of  Shades of Blue (co-star).  For WNETs Theater Close-Up,  he appeared in Fashions for Men, originally produced off-broadway. Film credits include the original Critters and work with directors Brian De Palma, Ron Howard, and Stephen Daldry.

Jeremys work with the material of Weimar cabarets began with the creation of Cabaret Verboten  in 1991. In its full-length version, the piece was produced around the country as well as in London and in Sweden. His work on Verboten led to his being asked to create the English lyrics for Ute Lempers  CD Berlin Cabaret Songs (Decca) and  to his being named  by Hollanders daughter Melodie as the official translator of the works of her father. In addition Franz Waxmans son has commissioned Jeremy to create Engish lyrics for many of the songs  of  his father written in Germany and France before emigrating  to the United States many of which will be included in the forthcoming Franz Waxman Songbook.

Jeremy is indebted to Alan Lareaus scholarship and his literal translations from the German in making all of the above work possible. www.jeremylawrence.net
