Événement

Lux Rd. at The Red Room NYC
Where, exactly, is Lux Rd.? It's a path that starts somewhere around Tony Bennett and Nancy Wilson, swings past Brian Wilson and The Kinks, then veers through M83 and The Postal Service before ending up somewhere entirely new and heretofore unknown.

BUTZI (pronounced like 'Put'-zee, but with a B at the front.)
Musician. Producer. Olympian. Elektrospank pioneer.

Butzi was born in Leipzig, raised in Canada, and recently emigrated to Brooklyn NY. A classically trained clarinetist whose Pop Music Production Wizardry on the 1990 Eurovision Finals track "Elektrospank" sparked the similarly titled German Dance genre, Butzi's musical travels have logged many miles. Most notably, he represented Canada in the luge at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, where a lifelong love for speed and spandex were realized.

His production credits since moving to New York City include commissions from the New York Public Theater, New York City Opera, and the David Parsons Dance Company. He continues to collaborate with some of New York's greatest singers - Everett Bradley (Bruce Springsteen E Street Band), Carolyn Leonhart (Steely Dan), and renowned Canadian singer Jane Siberry. To name a few. Now he begins a new chapter on Lux Rd with Driver, his collaborator on many previous projects.

UPDATE: Those of you who enjoy PBS's programming have probably seen Butzi playing his clarinet and dancing through Grand Central Station, in a promotional piece for NYU Langone Medical Center.

DRIVER
Musician. Designer. Conceptual Artist. Electrosaloon pioneer.

Driver has previously been known by many names; but most of them have, in one way or another, involved 'Driver.' So now, as he enters an unexpected and inspiring phase of his career, he has condensed his name to this simple and succinct moniker. Born in rural upstate New York to a family of five, he first realized his musical ambitions while watching repeated reruns of the film musical 'Oliver!,' which in subsequent viewings has proved to be a plodding, glacially-paced film full of over-long musical numbers.

Nonetheless music is, and always has been, in his blood. Along with makeup, sculpture, putting colors next to each other to see what they look like, and thinking about fonts and font treatments. He has worked On- and Off-Broadway, has been heard in many an advertisement on television and radio (for products like Dunkin Donuts and Bridgestone Tires), and has recently been pioneering the nascent genre known as Electrosaloon : an amalgam of classic, deeply felt vocal stylings and today's fresh and exciting electronic soundscapes. Over recent Sidecars, Butzi and Driver realized that they were in fact treading eerily similar musical paths. Thus was born Lux Rd.

This evening's performance is the third in an Introductory Trio Of Performances by this new musical attraction, which, since the ticketing entity has neither Elektrospank nor Electrosaloon as musical categories (they are simply too new and fresh), will be classified as 'Festival Music.'
