Sons of Rhythm
Prennez un son énergique blues, mélangez-le avec un avantage moderne, lancez quatre personnalités magnétiques, et vous aurez le groupe puissant quest Sons of Rhythm. Le groupe composé du bassiste / chanteur Mick Maratta, du guitariste Federico Luiu, du batteur Mike Carbone et du saxophoniste / pianiste Anthony Brancati, a connu un succès distinct avec d'autres groupes. Mais maintenant, ils combinent leurs divers talents musicaux pour apporter une énergie renouvelée à la musique blues avec leurs originalités entrainantes.
Sons of Rhythm captive les spectateurs avec leurs arrangements créatifs des standards du blues ainsi que des originalités entrainantes et énergétiques. Ils ont déjà fait plusieurs performances importantes. Parmi leurs plus remarquables, il y avait le spectacle d'ouverture de The Casbah pour Jordan John et le guitariste britannique Blues de l'année, Matt Schofield. Récemment, ils se sont produits lors du Northern Spirit pendant une nuit de rythme et de blues organisée par Mariposa Cruises.
Take an energetic blues sound, mix it with a modern edge, throw in four magnetic personalities, and you'll have the powerhouse band that is Sons of Rhythm. The group comprising of bassist/vocalist Mick Maratta, guitarist Federico Luiu, drummer Mike Carbone and saxophonist/pianist Anthony Brancati have all enjoyed separate success with other bands. But now they are combining their diverse musical talents to bring renewed energy to blues music with their catchy originals.
Sons of Rhythm captivates audiences with their creative arrangements of blues standards as well as catchy, energetic originals. They have already had several prominent performances under their belt. Among their more notable was a sold-out show at The Casbah opening for Jordan John and British Blues Guitarist of the Year Matt Schofield. Recently, they have performed aboard the Northern Spirit during a night of rhythm and blues hosted by Mariposa Cruises.
Crystal Shawanda
Chanteuse, compositeur primé de JUNO, dont le son soul et musclé a permis un pontage presque sans couture des mondes traditionnels du pays et du blues. Les origines culturelles autochtones de Crystal Shawanda lui ont parfois donné l'impression de devenir un outsider. Mais cette recherche peut être à la fin, comme le processus de création de son dernier album, The Fish Out of Water. Une artiste qui a réellement trouvé sa voix, et c'est une voix riche, puissante, charmante et intimement réelle.
Shawanda a grandi sur la réserve de Wikwemikong sur une île en Ontario, au Canada. Ses parents l'ont élevée avec la musique country et lui a enseigné à chanter et à jouer de la guitare, mais c'était son frère aîné qui l'a initiée au blues. Il se promenait dans le sous-sol de Muddy Waters, B.B. King et Etta James. Shawanda s'asseyait au sommet des escaliers, tendant à entendre ces sons douloureux. Il y avait une partie d'elle qui errait souvent en se demandant si elle pourrait jamais chanter comme ça. Et quand personne n'était à la maison, elle pratique le chant du blues.
A JUNO Award-winning singer, songwriter whose soulful, rootsy sound has allowed for a nearly seamless bridging of the traditional country and blues worlds, Crystal Shawandas unique aboriginal cultural background has left her feeling like an outsider at times. But that search may be at an end, as the process of creating her latest album, the cathartic, bold and refreshingly authentic Fish Out of Water. An artist who has truly found her voice, and it is a voice that is rich, powerful, charming and intimately real.
Shawanda grew up on the Wikwemikong reserve on an island in Ontario, Canada, Her parents raised her on country music and taught her to sing and play guitar, but it was her oldest brother who introduced her to the blues. He would hang out in the basement cranking Muddy Waters, B.B. King and Etta James, and Shawanda would sit at the top of the stairs, straining to hear those soulful sounds. There was a part of her that often wandered if she would ever be able to sing like that. And when no one was home, she would practice singing the blues.
The Blackburn Brothers
Une famille musicale dont le nom est intimement lié à lhistoire musicale et sociale du Canada, Blackburn est composé de quatre frères talentueux. Les ancêtres de la famille avaient joué un rôle dans le chemin de fer clandestin qui avait permis de transporter des esclaves vers le nord. Lhistoire familiale plus récente comprend un père qui sest distingué à titre dincontournable de la scène R&B de Toronto. Il était donc tout à fait naturel de former un groupe qui célébrerait et perpétuerait la tradition familiale. Leurs albums et leurs performances sont un mélange de soul, de R&B, de funk et, bien sûr, de blues. Le groupe a reçu le prix Maple Blues pour le meilleur nouveau groupe en 2010 et une candidature JUNO pour BLUES pour lalbum blues de lannée en 2016.
A musical family with a name that is steeped in Canadas musical and social history, Blackburn is comprised of four musical brothers. The familys ancestry is closely associated with the Underground Railroad that helped bring slaves north. Their more recent family history includes a father who became a seminal figure in Torontos R&B scene. So, forming a band that celebrates and carries the family tradition forward was natural. Their albums and live performances blend a mix of soul, R&B, funk, and of course, blues. Blackburn received the Maple Blues Award for BEST NEW BAND in 2010, and a JUNO nomination for BLUES ALBUM OF THE YEAR in 2016.
