TARTINE DE CLOUS WORKSHOP
TARTINE DE CLOUS FRENCH SINGING WORKSHOP
Do you enjoy singing and are you curious to learn more about French traditional song? We are very excited to welcome French vocal trio Tartine de Clous (Geoffroy Dudouit, Thomas Georget and Guillaume Maupin) who will be guiding us through this rich seam of tradition. This workshop is open to everyone and no music reading is required: all the learning will be done by ear.
The aims are simple: to look at the Francophone song repertoire of oral and popular tradition and to find ways of harmonising it, in the style of Tartine de Clous. We'll be exploring some of the tools (listening, drones, improvisations, contre-chants, counterpoints) required to create a modal polyphony with ease.
There are three steps:
Firstly, practise the basics of modal polyphony using well-known French modal tunes.
Then the three workshop leaders will teach a few songs. The melodies will work around a drone (voice or shruti box). Through listening, in next to no time you will be able to reproduce different polyphonies, including the French song arrangements of Tartine de Clous.
Finally, you'll have a chance to create your own 'arrangements', exploring the modal character of each song.
Don't forget to bring your recording devices!
À bientôt!
