For All: A Concert for MLK 2017
Composer-pianist Krystal J. Folkestad Grant is joined by some of her musical friends for a concert of spoken word, spirituals and sing-alongs. Artists and audience will reflect together on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vision of humankind as a brotherhood of liberty and justice for all. The program will include arrangements of "Go Down Moses" and "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," classical piano solos by diverse composers, and spoken word to contextualize group singing of "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" and "America the Beautiful." Pay what you want!

Krystal's career has broadened from giving lecture-recitals in elementary schools of her hometown, Birmingham, Alabama to presenting multimedia installations in New York City. Besides college classrooms, she has taught music appreciation in after-school programs, choir at a homeless shelter, and musical theater at a senior center. She majored in piano performance and Spanish at Vanderbilt University, where she developed her passion for the rhythmic arrays of Cuban music and the motivic moderation of Shostakovich. With her Ph.D. in composition from Stony Brook University, she currently teaches composition and theory in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, while sharing life with others through making music.

Special Guest: Evan Folkestad Wilson, violin
Evan Folkestad Wilson studied violin privately in his hometown of Minneapolis, MN for seven years. He played first violin in the Greater Twin Cities Symphonies and sang with the Burnsville High School choir, including a European tour that included Salzburg, Venice, and Prague. His favorite past performances include Mozart's Overture to Don Giovanni and Beethoven's Hallelujah from Mount of Olives. He enjoys supporting local artists and hearing live music whenever he can.

Special Guest: Jonah M. Martin, actor
Hailing from Rochester, NY, Jonah moved to Lancaster to study at Lancaster Bible College. He will be graduating promptly in Musical Theatre and can be recognized from a variety of roles both at the college and in the local theater circuit. He also shares a passion for writing and strives to become a jack of all trades. Recent credits include Black Patent Leather Shoes at Popovsky Performing Arts Studio, Old Time Radio Gospel Hour with Servant Stage Company, and Godspell with LBC.
