Dans le Québec des années 70, Serge revient chez lui après un voyage de trois mois en Europe. Il retrouve, inchangés, ses tantes hypocondriaques, son père sourd et ses soeurs aînées, pour qui il est un objet de désir. La vie familiale poursuit son cours, mais Serge, lui, a pris une décision. Il a fini d'écouter les remontrances et les monologues. Il va parler. Trouver les mots pour dire l'indicible.
Avec une humanité bouleversante et une beauté poignante, Bonjour, là, bonjour traite de l'amour interdit et des tabous. Une oeuvre monumentale, portée sur scène par huit interprètes et signée Michel Tremblay.

In the Quebec of the 1970s, Serge returns home avec a three-month trip to Europe. There, he finds, unchanged, his hypochondriac aunts, his deaf father, and his older sister, for whom he remains an object of desire. Family life plods along inexorably until Serge decides to stop listening to the whining, the reprimands, the monologues. Instead, he speaks, and finds the words to express the inexpressible.
One of the major plays of the theatrical canon, Bonjour, là, bonjour deals with forbidden love, and the difficulty with which we express that love. A tragedy both poignant and beautiful, deeply moving, created by the father of contemporary Quebecois theatre.
